At Cedar & Sage Mental Health, we may communicate with patients by text message (SMS/MMS) for convenience and customer care. Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to protecting your information while providing efficient communication.

Consent to Receive Text Messages

By providing your mobile phone number to Cedar & Sage Mental Health and agreeing to receive text messages, you consent to receive SMS communications from our practice. Consent to receive text messages is voluntary and is not a condition of receiving treatment or other healthcare services.

You may opt in by:

  • Providing your mobile phone number during registration or intake.

  • Verbally consenting to receive text messages.

  • Initiating communication by texting our business phone number.

Types of Messages You May Receive

Text messages may include:

  • Responses to patient-initiated inquiries

  • Administrative communications

  • Scheduling or rescheduling assistance

  • Practice updates

  • Patient portal assistance

  • Requests to complete paperwork or forms

  • General customer service communications

Medication changes, clinical decision-making, or extensive discussions of your medical care will generally be redirected to our secure patient portal or a scheduled appointment.

Secure Communication

Existing patients should use our secure patient portal for medication requests, clinical questions, side effects, refill requests, and other protected health information whenever possible.

Privacy & Security

While Cedar & Sage Mental Health uses reasonable safeguards to protect patient information, standard SMS and MMS text messaging are not fully secure or end-to-end encrypted. Messages may be stored or transmitted through your mobile carrier or other third-party systems beyond our control. Once delivered, messages may also be accessible on your personal device.

Please avoid sending sensitive medical information by text message whenever possible.

Response Times

Text messages are not monitored continuously. Responses are generally provided during normal business hours and are not guaranteed within any specific timeframe.

Emergencies

Text messaging must never be used for emergencies or urgent mental health concerns.

If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or someone else and cannot remain safe, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
